Hanae Mori (1926-2022) was a figure of Japanese fashion, the first designer to enter the Parisian Haute Couture scene, her talent and career have been unanimously acclaimed by the international press. "Madame Butterfly" as she is known, has dressed personalities from around the world, from Grace Kelly to Hillary Clinton, including Masako, Empress of Japan in 2019. Beyond the famous designer and her influence on the artistic scene, Hanae Mori has been a pioneer with panache for the emancipation of women in Japan. In 1988, she received a Purple Ribbon Medal of Honor from the Government of Japan. In 1989 Mori was awarded the French Legion of Honor by President François Mitterrand of France. In 1996, Mori was awarded the Order of Culture by the Emperor of Japan.
