Ruth Womack (1918-2007)
Houston, Texas artist
Oil on Canvas
Mid 20th Century
Beautiful palette knife oil painting of red roses.
Condition: Very Good

Womack was a versatile artist. She excelled in oils, acrylics, wood carving and copper tooling. She began sketching and drawing while still a child. The compositions and designs she created for her father’s store windows were early evidence of her artistic talent.

She was known for her landscapes and roses. She painted vibrant blossoms that unfolded on her canvases, a manifestation of her lifelong love for flowers. She proved her mastery of color, light and form in their creation.

Womack was most grateful to the many teachers who helped her develop her own unique style, including renowned artists such as A.D. Greer, Grant MacDonald, William Henry Earle, Fernie Parker Taite, and James Woodruff.

Artist-instructor, Womack taught for over 17 years giving private lessons, workshops, and demonstrations throughout the United States including at the Houston Civic Arts Association. She was the recipient of many awards and was a member of the Art League of Houston, Conservative Arts, Houston Civic Arts Association, Inc., Lone Star Art Guild, Wood Carving Association, and the Calligraphy Art Guild.

Womack was listed in the 1980’s Volumes I & II, Artists of Texas, published by Mountain Productions, Inc. She also had an opportunity to have her art displayed in the Austin, Texas Capitol in the Governor’s Mansion. She had been featured in several one-woman shows and exhibited throughout Texas and New Mexico. Her paintings were hung in numerous corporate and private collections.
