This design from the Ventana Collection of fabrics was inspired by photographs I took of exterior windows of the famous Buffalo City Hall building at dusk just before a storm rolled in. The natural, dim dusk sunlight hit the glass surface creating a glorious rainbow effect.
Built in the early 1930’s, Buffalo City Hall has been dubbed as one of the ten most beautiful in the nation. The beautiful 32-story Art Deco building is one of the largest and tallest municipal buildings in the United States.
There are 1,520 windows from the first to the twenty-fifth floor. An interesting design feature is that all of them open inward, making window washers obsolete in the new City Hall. It takes approximately ten days to clean them all.
The Buffalo City Hall was put on the State and National Register of Historic Places in 1999.
My fabric designs are created from digital photography and are drawn from nature, architectural and antiquities details, textures, patinas, and found objects.
