Massive Mexican Tonala, Jalisco vintage hand painted burnished folk art polychrome pottery charger. North America, Mexico, c. early to mid 20th century, with beautiful and graceful artwork with desert motif including a stylized deer surrounded by two sun faces and floral designs. This charger is beautifully decorated.
Tonala has long been recognized as a center for ceramics in Mexico. Tonalá boasts deep ties to the artisan tradition, as the history of pottery there dates back to pre-Hispanic times.
The artwork and the large size of this charger makes it a very special piece! The charger shows some age and a wonderful patina. Very good vintage condition. Light wear, surface scratches, and minor abrasions throughout, mostly around rim edge. No chips, cracks, or breaks.
Measures approximately 21” in diameter.
Ready to hang with built-in wire hanger or it can be placed on a table and used as a centerpiece; protective felt on the bottom.
